How it works

A social experiment in public virtue.

Virtue Signals has no opinion about any cause. Every cause starts at zero. The only thing that gives a cause weight is how many people support it or denounce it.

  1. 1

    Create a profile

Your name, photo and location are public. Your email never is. Social links show only if you choose to share them.

  2. 2

    Take a stand

Support or denounce causes. Each stance costs one social credit. You get 4 free, plus 1 more each day you sign in; packs of more start at $1.

  3. 3

    Change your mind

Drop a stance and you get half a credit back. People will notice: recent reversals show up on your profile.

  4. 4

    Watch the summary

Your profile writes its own headline about your latest stance, plus any possible red flags, such as an opposing cause you haven't denounced or a cause the crowd has turned against.

  5. 5

    Vote on people

Upvote or downvote other profiles for one credit each (undoing a vote refunds half). Your votes affect your score too: upvote someone whose score rises and you gain; if they fall, so do you.

The Virtue Score

  • A cause gains value with every supporter and loses it with every denouncer. Values are hidden, and they shift as people act.
  • Supporting a cause adds its value to your score. Denouncing it subtracts its value, so denouncing a widely denounced cause raises your score.
  • Upvotes and downvotes on your profile move your score directly.
  • Your votes carry risk: each one ties a small share of your score to the person you voted on.
